Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

Hermiston or Umatilla, OR

On-Site role

$26 - $27 per hour (6-month Contract-to-Hire)


ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking motivated, entry-level individuals to join their team as Data Center Engineering Operations Technicians in Hermiston or Umatilla, OR, through a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity. This position is part of the Elevate Program—a paid training and development pathway designed to provide hands-on technical experience and structured learning in a data center environment. As a member of the Engineering and Facilities team, you will support the operation and maintenance of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, follow detailed safety and operating procedures, and help maintain world-class facility reliability. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Support operation and maintenance of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure in the data center, including systems such as UPS, switchgears, generators, chillers, CRAC/CRAH, and BMS.
  • Uphold top safety standards, follow detailed safety and operating procedures, and participate in safety initiatives and mitigation planning.
  • Assist with rack installations, rack power-up activities, and commissioning of data center equipment; support design, build-out, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct facility rounds, log readings, and troubleshoot issues within service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Maintain accurate asset and inventory tracking for data center equipment.
  • Participate in structured technical training and on-the-job learning through the Elevate Program, including daily structured learning (2 hours/day) via Amatrol and AWS virtual modules.
  • Begin on the Rack Install Team with a standard schedule (M-F, 8AM-4:30PM) for the first two weeks before transitioning to a rotating shift schedule.
  • Complete onboarding tasks such as TPVR onboarding, GovCloud/IT access setup, construction access authorization, and initial safety/compliance training.
  • Become eligible for an online readiness assessment for conversion to a full-time AWS EOT after 4–6 months; additional training and shadowing provided if needed.
  • Work rotating 10-hour shifts (4x10s), including weekends and holidays, with day shifts either Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday (6AM–4:30PM or 7AM–5:30PM).
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and web-based operational tools for documentation and reporting.

  • Ability to work 10-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 39 pounds independently; group lifts for 40+ pounds.
  • Comfortable performing construction tasks from ladders.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word) and web-based operational tools.
  • Highly proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to participate in structured technical training and on-the-job learning.
  • Commitment to upholding top safety standards and supporting safety initiatives.
  • Interest in electrical, mechanical, or facilities systems.
  • Ability to support rack installations, build-out, and commissioning of data center equipment.
