ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Technical Lead to provide technical direction and architectural leadership for a growing engineering team focused on new application development, backend services, and enterprise application integrations. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who can balance architecture, execution, and engineering leadership. The Technical Lead will work closely with software engineers, product leadership, and technical partners to take incoming features from initial requirements through technical design and successful delivery. The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer and technical leader who can manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, make sound architectural decisions, translate those decisions into actionable development work, and stay close enough to the code to help engineers solve complex technical problems. Success in this role means providing clear technical direction, keeping development moving across multiple initiatives, ensuring well-defined designs and actionable work for engineers, and addressing technical blockers quickly while balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Provide technical leadership and architectural direction across multiple concurrent application development and integration initiatives
• Own technical design decisions and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable
• Evaluate incoming features, determine technical approach, scope development efforts, and translate designs into clear epics and stories for engineering execution
• Partner closely with developers throughout implementation, helping troubleshoot challenges, remove technical blockers, and keep delivery moving
• Lead technical design reviews and communicate architectural decisions, tradeoffs, and solution strategy to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Design and guide development of backend services, APIs, microservices, and enterprise application integrations
• Establish effective patterns for API design, event-driven architecture, data contracts, and system integrations
• Remain hands-on with backend development, primarily using Python, FastAPI, and AWS
• Provide technical leadership around Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, deployments, and environment management
• Guide solutions utilizing technologies such as AWS Lambda, ECS Fargate, Kafka, Aurora/PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB
• Support streaming and batch integration patterns while partnering with data engineering teams as needed
• Participate in production support and on-call responsibilities, including technical escalation, root cause analysis, and resiliency improvements
• Mentor engineers through technical coaching, design guidance, and code reviews
• Promote strong engineering practices, documentation, accountability, and operational ownership

WHAT YOU BRING

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend, platform, application integration, or distributed systems development
• Previous experience serving as a Technical Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Staff/Principal Engineer, or architecture owner
• Strong hands-on Python development experience, particularly within backend applications and services
• Deep experience designing and developing cloud-native solutions within AWS
• Demonstrated experience owning technical architecture and system design, including the ability to communicate design decisions around scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability
• Experience leading developers through technical execution, including requirements analysis, solution design, work breakdown, code reviews, troubleshooting, and delivery
• Ability to successfully lead and prioritize multiple technical projects or workstreams simultaneously
• Experience designing REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and/or enterprise application integrations
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience supporting production systems and participating in on-call or incident-response activities
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across engineering and product teams
• Preferred: Experience with Kafka, event-driven architecture, FastAPI, AWS Lambda, ECS Fargate, Aurora/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, streaming/batch processing, AWS Glue, PySpark, Route 53, AWS load balancing, platform/shared-service architecture, enterprise SaaS/ERP/CRM integrations, Redshift, and data warehousing concepts
