Investment Operations Specialist II – Settlement Operations

Location: Charlotte, NC

Work Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote

Contract: 3-Month Contract with potential for extension or conversion

Pay Range: $40–$44/hour W2


About the Opportunity

Calculated Hire is seeking an Investment Operations Specialist II to support a leading financial institution’s Settlement Operations team within Capital Markets.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role responsible for ensuring securities trades settle accurately and on time while minimizing operational risk. The ideal candidate will bring direct DTC settlement experience, strong reconciliation and exception-resolution skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external counterparties.


Responsibilities

  • Process and monitor daily securities settlement activity across domestic markets.
  • Perform start-of-day and end-of-day break reconciliations to ensure books and records balance accurately.
  • Research and resolve settlement breaks, failed trades, and trade exceptions.
  • Monitor settlement activity across proprietary applications, reconciliation systems, and books-and-records platforms.
  • Coordinate with Trading, Middle Office, Funding, Operations, and external counterparties to resolve settlement issues.
  • Investigate discrepancies and determine the appropriate resolution or escalation path.
  • Maintain accurate documentation while meeting strict market deadlines and settlement cutoffs.
  • Analyze reconciliation breaks and identify recurring issues or process-improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders throughout the settlement lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of hands-on securities settlement experience within Capital Markets, Investment Operations, or a similar environment.
  • Direct experience supporting settlements through DTC.
  • Experience performing trade reconciliations, break resolution, or exception management.
  • Understanding of the post-trade lifecycle from execution through settlement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Broadridge, including Impact, GCM, BPS, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting equity and/or fixed-income settlements.
  • Familiarity with books-and-records systems, OMS platforms, or proprietary settlement applications.
  • Experience with settlement fails, counterparty communication, and operational risk management.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a quick learner who takes ownership of settlement issues, communicates professionally, and is comfortable working through reconciliation breaks under tight deadlines. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance books accurately by the end of each day.
