Telecommunications Technician

Onsite - Greater Norfolk, VA Area (Chesapeake, Suffolk, or Portsmouth, VA)

12-Month Contract (possibility to extend)

Pay: $20 - $27/hr (DOE)

 

Brooksource is looking for a Telecommunications Technician to join one of our largest Fortune 500 energy and utility clients. The selected Telecommunications Technician will provide installation and maintenance support for our client’s telecommunications infrastructure, including various types of network equipment, testing and troubleshooting single mode fiber optic cable, and connecting equipment to DC power systems. This equipment is located across our client’s Virginia and North Carolina service territories. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working hands-on with DC power and telecommunications equipment, and will bring a safety-first, detail-oriented approach to every install.

 

This is a hands-on, field-based opportunity that gets you exposure to the critical telecom infrastructure of one of the nation’s largest energy providers. The selected Telecommunications Technician will work effectively within a team environment while also demonstrating the ability to function with minimal supervision, adapting to changing workflow on a daily and hourly basis. Requirements:

·      High school diploma or GED.

·      Basic skill and understanding of electronic/telecommunications equipment installation, including running power leads, installing fuse panels, cable management, fiber management, cable terminations, and grounding.

·      Good working knowledge of and comfortability with DC power, including 48V DC power systems.

·      Basic understanding of data networking.

·      Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.

·      Effective computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products to include Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SAP, and Outlook.

·      Demonstrated technical documentation skills.

·      Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·      Analytical, abstract thinking, and problem-solving skills.

·      Ability to work effectively within a team environment while also functioning with minimal supervision.

·      Willing to adhere to established best practices, standards, and change management policies and procedures.

·      Flexibility to adapt to changing workflow on a daily and hourly basis.

·      Must have reliable transportation capable of driving through multiple terrains.

·      Must have basic hand tools and safety shoes. We will provide specialty tools, test sets, laptop, and PPE.

·      Must be open to working overtime, which could impact holidays and possibly weekends.

 

Bonus Qualifications:

·      Basic knowledge and hands-on experience with single mode fiber optic cable.

·      Detailed knowledge and hands-on experience with DWDM and MPLS equipment.

·      Broader fiber knowledge and experience.

 

Responsibilities:

·      Provide installation and maintenance support for the client’s telecommunications infrastructure across their Virginia and North Carolina service territories.

·      Install and maintain various types of network equipment.

·      Test and troubleshoot single mode fiber optic cable.

·      Connect equipment to DC power systems, including 48V DC power systems.

·      Run power leads, install fuse panels, and perform cable management, fiber management, cable terminations, and grounding.

·      Create and maintain technical documentation for the work performed.

·      Adhere to established safety standards, best practices, and change management policies and procedures.

·      Travel across the client’s service territories as needed to support installation and maintenance activities.

·      Heat up to 25%

·      Loud noise up to 25%

·      Outdoors up to 25%

·      Travel up to 75%
