Remote Role (Nashville, TN area preferred; hybrid considered)
Contract, Employer-of-Record (Brooksource)
Compensation: $50 - $70 per hour
Openings: 3
ABOUT THE ROLE
Brooksource, a leading technology talent and services partner, is seeking DevSecOps Platform & Governance Engineers to support a major public-sector technology modernization initiative for a state government client. In this contract role, you will play a key part in introducing, configuring, and administering a shared suite of software delivery platforms across multiple departments, with a strong emphasis on cost-effective tool consolidation, security integration, and robust governance. You will help define how teams work within these platforms, build automated security scanning into the software delivery process, and ensure compliance with public-sector requirements. There are three distinct focus areas for this role—Platform/DevOps Engineering, Application Security Engineering, and Governance & Process Leadership. Candidates with deep expertise in one of these areas are encouraged to apply. Brooksource will serve as your employer of record, providing ongoing support throughout your assignment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Introduce, configure, and administer software delivery and collaboration tools, including Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and OpenShift, to support reliable software planning, development, and deployment across agencies
- Define, document, and implement repeatable processes, guardrails, and governance standards for software delivery within shared platforms, ensuring auditable and compliant workflows
- Integrate and maintain automated code security scanning tools within delivery pipelines; review findings, tune scanning configurations, and support teams in remediating vulnerabilities prior to release
- Recommend and implement tool consolidation and licensing strategies to optimize costs, control software and cloud spend, and eliminate duplication across departments
- Partner with engineering, security, and departmental stakeholders to drive platform adoption, ensure alignment with agency requirements, and support cross-agency coordination
- Document processes and facilitate adoption across multiple teams and departments, providing clear communication and training as needed
- Ensure compliance with public-sector procurement rules, IT governance frameworks (such as NIST), and other regulatory requirements
- Support the modernization of technology delivery by building standards, processes, and guardrails that enable secure, efficient, and cost-effective software development
WHAT YOU BRING
- Hands-on experience administering or standing up at least one of the following: container platforms (OpenShift or Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins), or code/work-tracking tools (GitHub, Jira, Azure DevOps)
- Working knowledge of secure software delivery practices and integrating security into development pipelines
- Demonstrated ability to document processes and drive adoption across multiple teams or departments
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Eligibility to pass a public-sector background check
- Platform focus: OpenShift administration experience in enterprise or government environments
- Application security focus: Experience with code scanning tools (SonarQube, Snyk, Checkmarx, Veracode, Fortify, GitHub Advanced Security) and familiarity with SAST, DAST, and SCA approaches
- Governance focus: Prior public-sector or state government experience, familiarity with NIST or similar frameworks, and experience building IT governance or SDLC standards
- Cost focus: Experience managing software and cloud licensing costs (FinOps/cost management)
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
- Opportunity to drive impactful technology modernization in the public sector
- Flexible remote or hybrid work environment
- Support from Brooksource as your employer of record throughout the engagement
- Collaborative, mission-driven team environment
- Competitive hourly compensation
