Compensation: $45/hour

6-month contract, 30 hours per week, with potential for extension

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Tennessee Department of Health – Office of Primary Prevention is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable ADA Compliance Coordinator to lead efforts in ensuring that all training materials developed for the Tennessee TRAIN Learning Management System and related programs are fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508, and WCAG accessibility standards. In this remote, 6-month contract role (with potential for extension), you will play a critical part in identifying and removing accessibility barriers within training programs, collaborating with content creators, learning and development teams, and technology/software vendors. You will assess and remediate training content, consult on new training development, conduct accessibility audits, provide staff training, and maintain thorough documentation of compliance activities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in accessibility compliance, a strong understanding of relevant guidelines, and excellent communication and collaboration skills. Accessibility certifications and familiarity with accessible design tools are preferred. Flexible work arrangements are available, and very rare travel may be required for training delivery, audits, or vendor meetings.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Evaluate existing training materials (e.g., videos, documents, e-learning modules) for ADA and accessibility compliance, recommending and implementing necessary improvements.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, content creators, and program teams to ensure all new training content is accessible from inception.
  • Conduct regular accessibility audits of the Tennessee TRAIN Learning Management System and related platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA (or latest) standards across all training delivery methods.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff and content creators on producing accessible materials, including captioning, alt text, document formatting, and color contrast.
  • Maintain clear and thorough documentation of compliance reviews, remediation actions, and ongoing monitoring processes.
  • Stay current with updates in accessibility laws, guidelines, and best practices relevant to digital and in-person training.
  • Utilize accessibility tools and technologies (e.g., screen readers, captioning software, accessibility checkers) to review and remediate digital content for compliance.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively across departments and with external vendors as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Previous experience in accessibility compliance or ADA coordination, preferably with a focus on training or e-learning.
  • Solid understanding of ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 (or higher) guidelines.
  • Experience reviewing and remediating digital content for accessibility (e.g., PDFs, PowerPoints, videos, LMS modules).
  • Familiarity with accessibility tools and technologies (e.g., screen readers, captioning software, accessibility checkers).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments and with external vendors.
  • Accessibility certification (e.g., CPACC, WAS, or other IAAP credentials) preferred.
  • Familiarity with accessible design tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro, Articulate Storyline, Microsoft Accessibility Checker) preferred.
  • Ability to stay informed and adapt to updates in accessibility laws, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain thorough documentation.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible remote work environment, with potential for hybrid arrangements based on organizational needs
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on accessibility and inclusion in public health training
  • Potential for contract extension
  • Professional development in accessibility compliance and training
  • Collaborative and mission-driven team environment
  • Very rare travel for training delivery, audits, or vendor meetings
