Job Description:
Latam Payroll Supervisor
Onsite - Houston, TX
$130-150K/Year DOE
Direct Hire
Job Description
Our Oil & Gas client is looking for a dedicated LATAM payroll accounting resource for a growing global payroll operations team, at the start of bringing regional payroll support into a centralized location. It begins as a one-person team alongside the payroll leader, with the opportunity to help shape how the function is built and to add team members as the scope grows (for example, Brazil).
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as the point of triage for LATAM payroll service tickets, researching and determining which issues need to be resolved internally and which should be routed to regional hub teams or vendors, and responding to leaders, employees, and the business.
• Investigate payroll discrepancies and perform root cause analysis, for example determining why a country's calculation (such as vacation premium) does not match the system and whether the cause is a configuration issue, a system update, or a local regulation change. Develop recommendations, execute corrections, and implement preventative measures.
• Perform payroll-related accounting activities, including reconciliations, vacation and other accruals, stock-related reconciliations, and booking and troubleshooting journal entries in SAP S/4HANA.
• Interpret and apply company policy, internal controls, and country-specific payroll, tax, and statutory requirements to payroll transactions.
• Partner with regional hub teams, local country teams, ADP contacts in each country, HR, Legal, IT, and integrations teams to drive process and system enhancements and ensure compliant payroll processes and accurate financial recording.
• Translate technical and system issues into clear explanations for audiences at different levels, and gather and communicate requirements for training and project implementation.
• Support system implementation and transition work as countries are brought onto new payroll, time, and finance systems, including understanding how time data feeds into payroll.
• Contribute to standardizing ticket handling and processes across the region, and support North America payroll projects as needed.
• Occasionally support general ledger and financial statement activities as needed, in collaboration with the broader accounting team.
• Provide guidance and, as the team grows, direction to junior team members, including performance and development discussions.
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in accounting, business, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in payroll accounting or payroll operations, ideally within a large multinational organization with multiple countries and legal entities.
• Working knowledge of country-specific payroll, tax, and statutory requirements in Mexico and Colombia, including payroll calculations and social security and state-level taxes.
• Fluent Spanish, written and spoken, for working with local teams and reading regional tickets.
• Experience investigating and resolving payroll issues in multiple countries, including root cause analysis.
• Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA, including booking and troubleshooting entries and reconciliations.
• Familiarity with SAP ECC, including how time data ties to payroll, and with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central.
• Proficiency with common office applications and financial systems such as SAP and Hyperion.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to ask the right questions of local teams and explain issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Team-oriented, with the flexibility to support projects and colleagues beyond the LATAM scope.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of Argentina payroll regulations.
• Experience with Brazil payroll, tax, and accounting principles; Portuguese a plus.
• Experience with ADP GlobalView and Celergo, or other SAP-based global payroll platforms. Experience with ADP payroll in general is also valued.
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff.
• Knowledge of US GAAP or country-specific accounting principles.
