Job Description:
Sr. Salesforce Data Engineer/ETL Specialist
Remote Role (Must reside in the US)
Contract: 6 months (high likelihood of extension)
Compensation: $75 - $95/hr (DOE)
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our industry-leading IT services consulting partner is seeking a highly motivated and technically sharp Senior Salesforce Data Engineer / ETL Specialist to join their existing Salesforce team on a major federal engagement. This fully remote, 6-month contract role (with high likelihood of extension) requires a seasoned data professional who can serve as the data authority across the Salesforce org. You will design and execute complex ETL pipelines, drive large-scale data remediation efforts, and own sandbox seeding programs from end to end—all while ensuring data integrity across Salesforce objects, flows, and external integrations. You will work closely with product, development, QA, and release teams to ensure data operations are reliable, repeatable, and built to scale. This position demands expert-level proficiency with SOQL and Salesforce Data APIs, strong scripting skills, and the seasoned judgment to navigate governor limits, rollback strategies, and data masking approaches with confidence. If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are passionate about data excellence in Salesforce, we encourage you to apply.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design and execute complex ETL pipelines for Salesforce feature releases, including object/field migrations, record transformations, and data seeding
- Investigate and diagnose data integrity issues across Salesforce objects, flows, integrations, and external data sources using SOQL, Apex Data Loader, and platform tooling
- Perform large-scale bulk data operations (inserts, updates, upserts, deletes) with rigorous attention to governor limits, error handling, rollback strategies, and zero-regression delivery
- Lead cross-team data remediation efforts—coordinating communication, scheduling, rollback planning, and post-execution validation
- Develop and execute realistic, high-volume test datasets and end-to-end sandbox seeding operations, including data masking, anonymization, and relationship-aware record loading across complex object hierarchies
- Maintain and enhance libraries of reusable seed scripts, templates, and runbooks for data operations
- Partner with QA, development, and release teams to define and meet data requirements for each sandbox environment
- Support adjacent workstreams during lower-demand periods, including API configuration, data mapping, integration troubleshooting, flow building, and general Salesforce development support
- Set data standards and provide expert guidance to product and engineering stakeholders
- Contribute to data governance practices, data quality frameworks, and DevOps/release management processes as needed
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5+ years of hands-on ETL or data engineering experience within the Salesforce ecosystem, with a track record of owning complex data programs end-to-end
- Expert-level proficiency with SOQL and Salesforce Data APIs (Bulk API, REST API)
- Deep familiarity with ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, MuleSoft, Jitterbit, or Dataloader.io
- Mastery of the Salesforce data model, including standard/custom objects, relationships, record types, sharing rules, and the downstream implications of data architecture decisions
- Proven experience designing and executing large-scale bulk data operations with rigorous attention to governor limits, error handling, rollback strategies, and zero-regression delivery
- Strong scripting skills in Python, SQL, or similar languages for automation and reusable script development
- Deep experience with test data generation, data masking, anonymization, and sandbox seeding across complex multi-object Salesforce environments
- Senior presence and excellent communication skills—able to lead cross-team coordination, set data standards, and be a reliable voice of expertise for product and engineering stakeholders
- Salesforce certifications (Administrator, Platform App Builder, or Data Architecture & Management Designer) preferred
- Experience with Salesforce DevOps tooling (e.g., Copado, Gearset) and release management
- Familiarity with data governance practices and data quality frameworks
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and contributing to sprint-based delivery
- Ability to read and write Apex or collaborate closely with developers on data-driven code changes
- Familiarity with sandbox management tools or strategies for Salesforce environment refresh and seeding is a plus
