Generator Service Technician
Herndon, VA
Onsite (6-month Contract-to-Hire)
Compensation: $25 - $40 per hour
Shift: 7AM - 5:30PM (Rotating schedule: Monday-Thursday and Tuesday-Friday)
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a skilled Generator Service Technician for an onsite position in Herndon, VA. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity supporting data center operations. The Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of electrical generator systems and related engine mechanical issues. As both a technical expert and the primary customer support contact, you will play a key role in ensuring safety, maximizing data center uptime, and delivering exceptional customer service. The position requires frequent travel within an assigned region, strict adherence to company safety protocols, and the ability to lift and maneuver equipment up to 40 lbs. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel generator maintenance, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to high-quality service and safety standards.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs on diesel generator systems and related engine mechanical failures
- Adhere to all company safety rules, maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area, and actively participate in accident prevention and safety improvement activities
- Serve as the primary customer support contact, responding promptly to customer requests and ensuring a positive customer experience
- Travel to designated sites to perform professional, high-quality field service repairs in accordance with company standards
- Communicate regularly with the Generator Service Manager, keeping management informed and utilizing leadership support to address customer questions and issues as needed
- Document detailed, complete, and legible descriptions of all repair operations performed
- Accurately record time for all service work performed
- Travel 80-90% of the time within the assigned region
- Lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs as required by the job
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including protective glasses, gloves, and footwear
- Work a rotating shift schedule: Monday-Thursday and Tuesday-Friday, 7AM - 5:30PM
WHAT YOU BRING
- Proven experience in diesel generator maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
- Strong knowledge of and adherence to company safety rules and accident prevention practices
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to respond promptly and professionally to customer requests
- Willingness and ability to travel 80-90% of the time within an assigned region
- Demonstrated ability to perform field service repairs to company standards
- Strong communication skills to keep management informed and assist with customer inquiries
- Ability to document detailed and legible repair operations and accurately record service work time
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs frequently
- Ability and willingness to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective glasses, gloves, and footwear
- Flexibility to work a rotating shift schedule as required
