Job Description:
ISP Field Technician
Phoenix, Arizona
On-Site Role (Hybrid: Primarily field-based with one remote/home office day per week)
$25-28/hour
6-Month Contract to Hire
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client, a leading fiber optic network provider, is seeking an ISP (Inside Plant) Field Technician for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity based in Phoenix, Arizona. As the organization rapidly expands its network across new data center markets, you will play a key role in supporting the activation of customer services, troubleshooting network outages, maintaining patch panels, and documenting field activities across designated sites. This hybrid role is primarily field-based, with one remote/home office day per week for reporting and administrative tasks. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, third-party contractors, and site technicians to ensure reliable network performance and seamless service delivery. On-call availability is required on a rotating basis, including evenings and weekends, and overtime-eligible hours apply for work beyond the standard schedule. This position offers weekly paychecks, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, and the potential for permanent employment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Support the activation of customer services at data centers and other network sites across designated coverage areas
- Troubleshoot and diagnose network outages, identifying failed ports or equipment and executing appropriate remediation procedures
- Perform field walkouts at data centers and network sites, meeting with vendors, capturing photos, and collecting GPS coordinates for vaults and equipment
- Document all field activity accurately and prepare reports for upload to OneDrive and distribution to vendors, following established processes
- Work alongside third-party contractors and site technicians to coordinate construction, installation, and service activation activities
- Maintain patch panels and ensure proper cable management and labeling across assigned sites
- Cover designated east or west market areas and participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours and weekend network issues
- Complete one remote/home office day per week for reporting, documentation, and administrative tasks
- Perform other duties as required to support network operations and expansion goals
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a data center, ISP, or telecommunications field technician role (recent experience strongly preferred)
- Working knowledge of TDM, SONET, IP, and VoIP technologies and equipment
- Understanding of both physical and logical OSP concepts, including fiber plant connectivity and customer circuit activation
- Experience troubleshooting network outages, identifying failed components, and following proper replacement and escalation procedures
- Familiarity with patch panels, port identification, and circuit diagnostics
- Ability to work effectively with third-party contractors and multiple site technicians simultaneously
- Flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation, including evenings and weekends
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
- 6-month contract to hire opportunity with a leading fiber optic network provider at the forefront of a major data center expansion
- Weekly paychecks
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits
- Potential for permanent employment
- Overtime-eligible hours for work beyond the standard schedule
