Junior Network Engineer, Engineering Operations

On-Site role

Compensation: $25

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our X-Labs Operations team, a group dedicated to accelerating the innovation of next-generation architectures and products at Comcast. Our team is the backbone for development and quality assurance, ensuring sustainable, repeatable, and predictable outcomes through our production-like environments. As an Engineer, Engineering Operations, you will play a key role in the physical installation, maintenance, and logistical support within our national labs, as well as asset management operations. You will participate in project teams, troubleshoot operational issues, implement new and existing products, and ensure the upkeep of engineering environments. This role requires a deep sense of accountability, technical aptitude, and adaptability in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. You will interface regularly with vendors, engineering, and peer operations organizations, and act as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Install and maintain physical infrastructure within national lab environments
  • Provide logistical and asset management support for engineering operations
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and deliver technical solutions to resolve problems
  • Implement new products and services, and support existing ones in production-like environments
  • Ensure compliance with industry and company technical requirements, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Collaborate with vendors, engineering teams, and peer operations organizations, including Design Engineering, Video Engineering, CMTS Engineering, Systems Engineering, IP Network Engineering, Critical Infrastructure, and Project Management
  • Analyze and evaluate complex IP/RF/Optical networks to identify and address issues, applying corrections or enhancements to ensure network operation efficiency
  • Contribute to strategies and recommendations for improving network availability and operational efficiency, proactively providing insights to simplify future additions and changes
  • Document processes, solutions, and operational changes clearly and accurately
  • Advocate for and uphold Engineering Operations procedures, policies, and lifecycle management practices, ensuring projects are fully integrated into operations environment tooling, including Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM)
  • Actively participate in a culture of accountability, feedback, and continuous improvement within the team

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5-7 years of experience in MSO architectures (HFC, DAA, PON, etc.)
  • Proven ability to analyze and physically evaluate complex IP/RF/Optical networks, identify issues, and apply corrections or enhancements
  • Intermediate knowledge of critical infrastructure systems (power/space/cooling) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM)
  • Experience with ticketing platforms (e.g., JIRA)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint)
  • Strong sense of accountability and ownership; ability to see challenges through to resolution
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a strong bias for action
  • Ability to work collaboratively, seek and give feedback, and adapt in a fast-paced environment, even when direction isn’t always clear
  • Self-starter with critical thinking, self-motivation, time-management, courage, and curiosity
  • Ability to partner with functional teams to influence and drive alignment
  • Advocate for Engineering Operations procedures, policies, and processes
