Job Description:
Engineering Manager / Delivery Lead
Hartford, CT OR Eden Prairie, MN
Hybrid Role
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager / Delivery Lead to oversee Agile teams in delivering high-quality products and services. This role blends technical program management with delivery leadership—coaching teams, orchestrating dependencies, and ensuring all work aligns to organizational objectives and is executed against clear definitions of done. As an AI-First leader, you will visibly model responsible AI adoption and help teams embed approved AI tools into everyday workflows to improve efficiency and strengthen decision-making. You will also foster a culture of continuous improvement, encourage AI skill-building, and ensure all delivery activities are compliant, ethical, and aligned with enterprise policies.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead Agile teams to deliver high-quality products and services aligned with organizational objectives, including Operations & Maintenance, Capital, and Tech Enablement initiatives.
- Define, document, and manage the Definition of Done (DoD) to uphold consistent delivery standards.
- Lead forecasting and capacity/demand discussions with engineering partners to support predictable and sustainable delivery.
- Facilitate the decomposition of Product Backlog Items (the what/why) into sprint-ready work (the how) with engineering and architecture partners.
- Identify and manage technical dependencies; contribute to integration strategy and technical roadmaps.
- Develop and maintain team-level release roadmaps that provide visibility into customer value delivery.
- Drive prioritization to maintain a single, unified backlog across stakeholders.
- Remove process impediments and protect teams from external disruptions that impact flow.
- Maintain and communicate delivery metrics (flow, quality, predictability) and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Model responsible AI adoption in day-to-day work; coach teams to use approved AI tools to augment decision-making, improve efficiency, and expand capacity.
- Create space for responsible AI experimentation within enterprise governance; reinforce compliant, ethical, and policy-aligned AI usage.
- Encourage participation in AI skill-building (e.g., AI Literacy, AI Dojo, leadership enablement) and help teams meaningfully apply new learning to their work.
- Enable the team to continuously improve how they work by creatively applying AI tools to reimagine workflows, elevate quality, and modernize their approach to problem-solving.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years in software engineering or technology delivery (healthcare preferred).
- 5+ years leading delivery teams in a fast-paced or matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated AI user mindset: consistently embeds approved AI tools into daily workflows and effectively coaches teams on responsible, productive adoption of AI.
- Working knowledge of Agile and modern delivery practices (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) with the ability to apply them pragmatically.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, team-level planning, backlog management, and release coordination.
- Proven ability to manage team-level dependencies, risks, capacity planning, and delivery metrics to ensure predictable outcomes.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
