Engineering Operations Technician

Compensation: $25–$30/hr depending on experience
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking motivated, entry-level individuals to launch their technical careers as Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) through a 12-month contract-to-hire opportunity. This onsite role is available in several Northern Virginia locations and offers a structured training and development pathway via the Elevate Program, which includes a 4-week, in-person classroom training at a local community college, followed by on-the-job learning in a data center environment. As a member of the Engineering and Facilities team, you will support the operation and maintenance of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, follow detailed safety and operating procedures, and help maintain world-class facility reliability. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with curiosity for technology, a strong work ethic, and an interest in electrical, mechanical, or facilities systems. Shifts are 12.5 hours with a rotating schedule, and both day and night shifts are available. WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Participate in a 4-week, instructor-led technical training program through a local community college as part of the Elevate Program
- Uphold and promote the highest safety standards, fostering a world-class safety culture
- Collaborate with other teams to address safety risks/issues and take ownership of safety initiatives and projects
- Operate and maintain critical electrical and mechanical equipment, including UPS systems, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATSs, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC units, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers
- Troubleshoot operational events within internal SLAs and work varying shifts (morning, late, and night)
- Conduct routine rounds and log operational readings of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance tasks
- Respond to off-duty emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation
- Lift and move objects/materials within regulatory weight limits and occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions
- Perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, handling equipment, reaching, twisting, bending, working above shoulders, grasping, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects into position
- Work 12.5-hour shifts (5:30 AM/PM – 6:30 AM/PM) on a rotating schedule (3 on/4 off, 4 on/3 off), with both day and night shifts available
WHAT YOU BRING
- Highly proficient in written and spoken English (CEFR C1)
- Ability to lift and move up to 39 pounds independently; group lifts for 40+ pounds
- Comfortable working and performing construction tasks from ladders
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word) and web-based operational tools
- Willingness to work 12.5-hour shifts, including day and night rotations
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working in various weather conditions
- Strong work ethic, curiosity for technology, and interest in electrical, mechanical, or facilities systems
- Preferred: Completed apprenticeship as an Electronics Technician/Electrician or equivalent recognized training
- Preferred: 1+ years of job-related experience in a fast-paced environment (e.g., restaurant, hospital/ER, classroom/schools, military, etc.)
- Preferred: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline
- Preferred: Familiarity with Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) control systems and data collection/trending
- Preferred: Proficient with Change Management Systems (CMS) and Ticket Systems
