Job Description:
Lead Full Stack Engineer
Brooksource
Fortune 50 Health Insurance Client
Remote
Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to help launch and lead a new engineering team focused on building next-generation, AI-powered, omni-channel customer experiences. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, with ~60% of time spent coding, for someone who genuinely loves to build software while elevating the engineers around them.
In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of key initiatives, help establish engineering principles and best practices, integrate new tools and technologies, and ensure teams remain unblocked and productive—without becoming a bottleneck or micromanager.
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as a hands-on technical leader, spending the majority of your time designing and writing production-quality code.
- Own and lead initiatives end-to-end, including architecture decisions, implementation, and cross-team collaboration.
- Drive the integration and adoption of new tools and technologies, including AI/ML-powered features (e.g., AI-driven search or recommendations).
- Establish and reinforce engineering principles, standards, and best practices across teams.
- Lead and support multiple development pods (3 total), each consisting of a pod lead and 2–3 engineers.
- Mentor and invest in engineers, helping them grow technically while raising overall team performance.
- Act as a force multiplier by unblocking developers, enabling autonomy, and keeping delivery moving forward.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering partners in a highly agile, startup-like environment.
- Participate in and promote pair programming, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
What We’re Looking For:
- A proven technical leader who wants to code, not manage from the sidelines.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset—self-driven, accountable, and comfortable leading ambiguity.
- Experience leading without micromanaging and empowering teams to move fast and independently.
- Strong ability to connect teams and stakeholders when rolling out new technologies or practices.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience building and architecting scalable full stack applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js) or equivalent.
- Deep experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Test-Driven Development (TDD), and software design patterns.
- Experience working with or integrating AI/ML-driven solutions or omni-channel customer platforms.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure or GCP preferred) and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and DevOps best practices.
- Proven ability to collaborate in agile environments, including pairing, mentoring, and code reviews.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to drive technical discussions across engineering, product, and design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Prior experience leading teams or owning greenfield projects.
- Passion for continuous learning, innovation, and building inclusive, high-performing engineering cultures.
