Credit Workout Officer III – SBA Focus
Locations: Columbus, OH | Warren, PA | Mount Joy, PA | Buffalo, NY | Erie, PA | East PA Region
Hybrid: Onsite Mon–Thurs, optional remote Friday

Join our client’s Special Assets Group as a Credit Workout Officer III, specializing in Small Business Administration (SBA) 7(a) and 504 loans. As the bank builds out its dedicated Small Business Workout team, you will serve as a subject-matter expert, working closely with the SBA department, counsel, and lending teams to improve guarantee recovery, enforce repayment, and strengthen workout operations. This hybrid role involves managing, restructuring, and resolving SBA loan workouts while ensuring full compliance with SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). You will prepare loan recaps, risk ratings, and workout plans, oversee SBA guarantee purchase packages, and coordinate with legal, lending, and appraisal teams on collateral and charge-offs. The ideal candidate brings at least five years of experience in commercial lending, special assets, or credit workout, strong analytical and documentation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to enhance SBA workout operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, special assets, or credit workout
- Working knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guarantee purchase processes preferred
- Strong analytical and documentation skills; detail-oriented with proven accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and adaptability to loan systems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative with internal teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage workout process for SBA 7(a) and 504 loans, ensuring compliance with SBA SOPs and accurate documentation
- Prepare and review loan recaps, risk ratings, and workout plans; recommend restructure or liquidation strategies
- Oversee SBA guarantee purchase packages and ensure timely submission to maximize recovery
- Coordinate with legal, loan officers, and appraisers regarding demand letters, collateral, and charge-offs
- Support ongoing collection activity, foreclosures, and bankruptcy reviews as needed
- Participate in Special Assets Group (SAG) Watch Calls and prepare summary reports for management
- Partner cross-functionally to enhance workflows and efficiency within the SBA workout function
