Sr. Manager, Global Merchandising Technology – Pricing and Promotion
Remote
Compensation: $90 - $100 per hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a visionary and results-driven Senior Manager to lead global merchandising technology initiatives, with a primary focus on pricing and promotion platforms. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Global Merchandising Technology, this role is responsible for defining and executing technology strategies, modernizing legacy systems, and delivering advanced platform capabilities to drive business outcomes in pricing analytics, price execution, promotion management, and markdown optimization. You will lead a globally distributed team of 10–15 technology professionals, operating within a complex, multi-region business model and a product-based delivery organization. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional business partners and ownership of measurable business outcomes such as inventory productivity, forecast accuracy, allocation efficiency, and platform performance. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in retail or merchandising technology leadership, expertise in both legacy and modern cloud-native platforms, and a strong background in data, analytics, and AI-driven solutions. This position demands excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, as well as a proven ability to deliver measurable business value in complex, multi-region environments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Define and execute a comprehensive technology roadmap aligned with global merchandising business strategies and objectives.
- Lead modernization of legacy systems (including mainframe) to scalable, cloud-native architectures for pricing, promotion, and related merchandising platforms.
- Oversee delivery, support, and continuous improvement of core merchandising technology systems, including pricing analytics and optimization, price execution, promotion setup and analysis, and markdown/clearance optimization.
- Drive adoption of API-first, event-driven, and composable platform designs to ensure global scalability and compliance with regional business models and regulatory requirements.
- Lead evaluation, selection, and implementation of third-party and SaaS solutions, including managing RFP processes, vendor assessments, and consulting partners.
- Establish and champion best-in-class engineering, DevOps, and solution architecture practices to ensure system reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Guide architectural decisions, integration patterns, and frameworks for connecting enterprise systems and data platforms.
- Manage and develop a globally distributed team (10–15 professionals) across engineering, integration, and quality disciplines, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, delivery excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Operate within a product-based delivery model, ensuring clear ownership of capabilities, successful platform rollouts, adoption, and post-implementation optimization.
- Partner with business stakeholders (merchandising, commercial, finance, operations, and data teams) to align technology initiatives with business priorities and deliver measurable results.
- Ensure high levels of data accuracy, operational integrity, and consistency across enterprise platforms, while supporting legacy systems and driving transition strategies to modern platforms.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, privacy, and data governance standards.
- Define, track, and report on KPIs tied to business value, system performance, and platform adoption; identify and reduce technical debt to improve scalability and maintainability.
- Drive organizational change management, including user adoption, training, and process transformation.
- Leverage advanced analytics, data platforms, and AI/ML models to enable data-driven decision-making, optimization, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Oversee execution of multiple large-scale, cross-functional initiatives and ensure effective collaboration across time zones, regions, and cultures.
- Manage technology budgets, prioritize initiatives, and optimize resource allocation for cost-effective delivery.
- Provide thought leadership and drive innovation through adoption of emerging technologies and modern platform capabilities.
- Define vendor strategy, including build vs. buy decisions, and manage consulting and SaaS partners to maximize value.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in retail or merchandising technology leadership roles.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale merchandising technology solutions, including hands-on experience implementing and configuring pricing and promotion systems (e.g., pricing, promotions, markdowns, or related domains).
- Experience leading engineering teams across multiple disciplines (development, integration, QA) in global, multi-region retail environments.
- Expertise with leading legacy and commercial merchandising platforms (e.g., Oracle, o9, SAS, Zebra, or similar), and experience with both legacy/mainframe systems and modernization to cloud-native architectures.
- Strong understanding of data platforms, analytics, and AI/ML-driven retail solutions.
- Hands-on experience with budgeting, prioritization, and resource planning.
- Experience managing vendors, SaaS platforms, and consulting partners.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively at both strategic and execution levels in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading globally distributed teams, including offshore development and support models, and proven ability to operate effectively across time zones, cultures, and regional business structures.
