Compensation: $35-45 per hour
Start Date: 3/2/26 or as soon as possible
Hours: 8-5 CST
Length of Contract: Through 7/1/26 with rolling extensions
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a Central Cancer Registry Data Manager to oversee the monitoring and management of data for the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry’s (OCCR) annual submissions to national and regional cancer registry programs, including the National Program for Cancer Registries (NPCR) and North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). This remote position is responsible for ensuring the functionality, compliance, and ongoing improvement of statewide cancer data systems, maintaining and updating database systems, and implementing data reporting tools and training for reporting facilities. The Data Manager will serve as a key liaison between IT, national partners, and internal teams, lead registry operations to meet certification standards, and act as a subject matter expert for cancer registry data. The role also includes oversight of data quality, compliance, and reporting processes, conducting data exchanges, supporting onboarding and training, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of national standards and best practices.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Maintain, monitor, and manage the flow of data in and out of statewide cancer registry database systems.
- Serve as administrator for Web Plus and RMCDS, troubleshooting malfunctions, updating abstract screens, and ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
- Facilitate communication between OMES (IT) and CDC-NPCR for secure website reporting system implementation and updates.
- Update and maintain internal and external reporting systems, including creating state-specific edit sets and ensuring required data items are current.
- Consult with and assist Web Plus and RMCDS end users, providing software updates and technical support.
- Lead, monitor, and manage annual data submission processes to achieve and maintain NAACCR Gold Certification and CDC NPCR standards.
- Oversee death clearance processes, including running death match programs, linking with hospital discharge data, reviewing and updating results, and adding death certificate only cases to the main database.
- Monitor and ensure compliance of reporting facilities with quarterly and annual data submission requirements; assist with tracking and remediation plans for delinquent facilities.
- Run linkages with vital records, Take Charge (Oklahoma BCCEDP), Indian Health Services, SSDI, NDI, and other required sources.
- Conduct data exchanges quarterly with bordering states and biannually with other state and territorial central cancer registries and the Cherokee Nation Cancer Registry.
- Consolidate cases, review and correct sequence 90 and duplicate cases, assist with abstracting, casefinding, and clearing DCO cases as assigned.
- Co-lead annual updates and maintenance of the OCCR Policy and Procedure Manual and the OCCR Cancer Data Reporting Manual.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new team members, including oversight of registry operations education and training.
- Serve as backup for Registry Program Manager and operations team lead, providing technical consultation and prioritizing team work to enhance registry operations and data flow.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on cancer registry data for the Center for Health Statistics, including review of requested data items for research requests.
- Document communications with reporters and maintain professional relationships with reporting facility staff.
- Attend at least 75% of webinars offered by NPCR and NAACCR annually, participate in relevant trainings, and complete necessary CE hours to maintain ODS-C certification.
- Solve problems collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a positive, professional workplace culture.
WHAT YOU BRING
- High school diploma required.
- Current certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C) is required.
- Four (4) years’ experience working with cancer registry data.
- Two or more years’ post-ODS certification experience at a state/central registry with training and quality assurance activities preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of Rocky Mountain Cancer Data Systems (RMCDS) preferred.
- Experience with Web Plus preferred.
- Strong database management and troubleshooting skills, including experience updating and maintaining abstract screens and edit sets.
- Ability to develop, update, and implement data reporting training tools and materials for reporting facilities.
- Experience with compliance monitoring and data quality standards (NAACCR, CDC NPCR).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to document and maintain professional relationships with reporting facility staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide technical consultation to team members.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining ODS-C certification, including participation in required trainings and webinars.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
