$80,000 - $120,000 per year (Varies Based on Years of Experience)

As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in preparing all levels of estimates and proposals for field and pre-fabrication construction projects. You will collaborate with clients, procurement teams, subcontractors, and vendors to develop accurate cost estimates, analyze historical data, and recommend process improvements. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Consult with clients, procurement teams, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders to develop estimates and resolve issues
  • Interface with Procurement and Operations to obtain support and commitment to cost estimates
  • Analyze historical data and recommend improvements to estimating procedures to reduce discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
  • Identify cost trends to support management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts
  • Assist in post-project analysis comparing estimated versus actual costs to determine root causes of discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with established estimating methodologies and quality standards
  • Review DOR completion, assignments, estimating quantities, and project scope
  • Review small and disadvantaged business solicitations and evaluations
  • Review subcontractor solicitations, quotes, RFP compliance, clarifications, exceptions, and evaluations
  • Identify gaps or overlaps in scope of work documentation
  • Assemble material and labor costs for proposals and construction projects
  • Conduct solicitation and pre-qualification efforts for subcontractors and small/disadvantaged businesses
  • Analyze and incorporate specialty and standard equipment/material pricing into estimates
  • Prepare and distribute bid packages to subcontractors
  • Present estimating information and attend pre-bid meetings
  • Conduct subcontractor labor and market studies and provide recommendations
  • Develop project summary schedules
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; develop and present estimating strategies and plans
  • Provide preliminary pricing for indirect costs and general conditions
  • Evaluate fee structures, contingency, and escalation; make recommendations
  • Review plans and specifications for risk and propose mitigation strategies
  • Review commercial terms and conditions with legal counsel for cost and risk considerations
  • Ensure accuracy and validity of estimate clarifications and assumptions
  • Analyze and price value engineering proposals
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Comply with all company policies and standards


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field with 3+ years of direct project estimating experience (applicable experience may be substituted in place of a degree)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with estimating software such as Quotesoft, Accubid, Oracle, and/or PowerBI preferred
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, construction disciplines, and cost control systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively, think critically, and make sound decisions
