Software Engineer 1

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer 1 to join their Information Technology (IT) department in Jacksonville, FL. Reporting to Asheem Dubey, this full-time, hybrid role is ideal for recent graduates or those with up to two years of experience who are eager to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment. As a Software Engineer 1, you will focus on learning company tools, processes, and codebase, contributing to small, well-defined tasks with close guidance. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and build a strong foundation for a career in software engineering.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Implement and maintain straightforward code solutions under close supervision
- Learn and apply company coding standards, tools, and development processes
- Debug and fix basic issues in existing software with support from more experienced engineers
- Participate in code reviews as a learner to gain familiarity with best practices
- Collaborate with teammates to understand requirements and contribute to small, well-defined tasks
- Gain exposure to Guidewire InsuranceSuite (PolicyCenter), including PCF, message queues, and business rules
- Engage in continuous learning to develop technical proficiency and understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- 0-2+ years of professional experience in software engineering or related responsibilities
- Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) phases and workflows
- Familiarity with fundamental programming concepts and software design patterns
- Experience or familiarity with CI/CD, unit/integration testing, and version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architecture (AWS preferred)
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Groovy, Python, Gosu, or JavaScript
- Exposure to Spring Boot framework and SQL
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., AppDynamics, Splunk)
- Interest or experience in AI Prompt/Agentic Engineering
- Guidewire InsuranceSuite (PolicyCenter) knowledge, including PCF, message queues, and business rules
- Guidewire Cloud InsuranceSuite Associate Developer certification preferred but not required
