RAFT Jr. Engineer
Hybrid Role

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Client is seeking a RAFT Jr. Engineer to join an agile squad responsible for developing and enabling new features on a proprietary core transaction processing platform (RAFT) based on IBM Mainframe Assembler. This role involves working with mainframe technologies, including a proprietary transaction container and database system (FDMS), and offers exposure to emerging technologies as part of a long-term transformation initiative. As a member of the team, you will consistently adhere to established practices and standards, contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, and share responsibility for managing risk by openly exchanging ideas, raising concerns, and following defined policies and procedures. You will demonstrate accountability by doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, ensuring actions support a positive customer experience, and operating within the Bank’s risk appetite by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks effectively. This position provides an excellent opportunity to build foundational mainframe skills while preparing for future opportunities across evolving technology stacks.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Implement new features and maintain overall software quality on the RAFT core transaction processing platform
- Learn and apply IBM Mainframe Assembler and related mainframe tools and technologies, including proprietary transaction containers and database systems
- Document and share technical knowledge as a developer within an agile squad
- Participate in code reviews and developer communities of practice, following best practices and sharing knowledge
- Research and resolve customer issues related to the platform
- Remain current on relevant technology trends and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
- Adhere to established practices, standards, and risk management policies, including openly exchanging ideas and raising concerns
- Collaborate with team members to deliver business solutions and support a positive customer experience
- Follow security best practices and ensure compliance with software development standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, IBM Mainframe Assembler and associated mainframe tools and technologies (e.g., Cobol, SAS, JCL, IDz/RDz, and other IBM mainframe utilities)
- Knowledge of object-oriented design and development in one or more programming languages: Java (8+), JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL, including DB2 plans and packages, table normalization concepts, and advanced query tools
- Understanding of basic networking concepts such as TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, and encryption
- Experience with version control solutions, preferably Git/GitHub
- Understanding of the full software development lifecycle
- Familiarity with security best practices for software development
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience with any of the following is a plus: Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Gradle, Docker, Node.js, Angular
