Design Engineer – Cyber & IT Systems
Hybrid Role (Onsite 2–4x/month)
Employment Type: W2 Contract through Brooksource - Contract through December 2025, with possible 6-month extension
Our client is seeking a Design Engineer specializing in Cyber and IT Systems to support secure system design initiatives within a highly regulated energy or utility environment. This contract role, based in Middletown, PA with periodic onsite requirements, is critical to ensuring secure system design, compliance with industry standards, and proper documentation of engineering changes.
The position involves developing and authoring Engineering Change documentation, designing and supporting IT/OT software and hardware systems with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity and compliance, and collaborating with engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams to implement and validate design changes. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical design expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams within a regulated setting. Start date is ASAP.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in cybersecurity or IT software/hardware design engineering (electrical background acceptable)
- Proven ability to author Engineering Change (EC) documentation
- Located within driving distance of Middletown, PA, with availability for onsite work 2–4 times per month
- Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in regulated environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in utilities, nuclear, or other regulated industries
- Prior Engineering Change or Digital I&C qualifications
- Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks in critical infrastructure environments
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and author Engineering Change (EC) documentation for system modifications and upgrades
- Design and support IT/OT software and hardware systems with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity and compliance
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams to implement and validate design changes
- Ensure all engineering work and documentation adhere to regulatory and internal standards
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of compliance and regulatory frameworks relevant to critical infrastructure
- Support the integration of new technologies and solutions within existing IT/OT environments
- Participate in audits and reviews to ensure ongoing compliance and security of systems
