Job Title: Insurance Specialist

Hourly/Salary Compensation Range: $25-$28/hr

Contract Length: 6 months

Location: Remote, PST hours

Hours: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week

Start Date: September 28, 2026


ABOUT THE ROLE

Inland Imaging is seeking two experienced Insurance Specialists for a 6-month remote contract, working full-time during Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours. As an Insurance Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing a high volume of unpaid or incorrectly paid third-party claims, ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement. You will be responsible for the full resolution process of insurance accounts, including follow-up, denial appeals, claim corrections, resubmissions, and payment discrepancy resolution. This position requires strong communication skills to interact with payers, patients, referring physician offices, vendors, and internal revenue-cycle teams. The ideal candidate will have a background in patient accounting, medical billing, or healthcare accounts receivable, with a proven ability to work independently in a remote environment. The contract is set to begin on September 28.


WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Manage and resolve a high volume of unpaid or incorrectly paid third-party insurance claims from start to finish
  • Conduct insurance follow-up, denial appeals, claim corrections, and resubmissions to secure appropriate reimbursement
  • Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, including unposted or incorrectly posted payments
  • Process refunds and manage credit balances for payers and patients
  • Obtain retroactive authorizations or referral numbers as needed
  • Monitor denial trends, recognize systemic payer issues, and assist with corrective action plans
  • Communicate effectively with payers, patients, referring physician offices, vendors, and internal revenue-cycle teams
  • Coordinate with credentialing teams to resolve provider enrollment issues when necessary
  • Ensure accurate account updates based on payer adjudication information
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
  • Work independently in a remote environment during PST business hours
  • Support peer-to-peer quality assurance or training of billing staff as needed

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Previous experience in patient accounting, medical billing, insurance follow-up, or healthcare accounts receivable
  • Experience managing a high volume of unpaid or incorrectly paid claims
  • Hands-on experience appealing denials and correcting/resubmitting claims
  • Ability to work accounts through the complete follow-up and denial-resolution process
  • Experience contacting insurance companies to investigate claim and payment status
  • Ability to resolve claim edits and obtain missing information before submission
  • Experience researching underpayments, overpayments, unposted payments, and posting discrepancies
  • Ability to interpret payer adjudication information and update accounts appropriately
  • Experience reviewing credit balances and processing payer or patient refunds
  • Ability to recognize denial trends and escalate systemic payer issues
  • Strong customer-service, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage a high-volume workload
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment during PST business hours
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and patient accounting or billing systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two-year medical billing program or related coursework preferred
  • No professional certification or license required


  • Nice to Haves:
    • Radiology billing experience
    • Experience supporting a physician group or professional-fee billing operation
    • Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10
    • Familiarity with Medinformatix or another patient accounting platform
    • Experience with Waystar, Meditech, Code Correct, or Workday
    • Experience obtaining retroactive authorizations or referral numbers
    • Experience coordinating with credentialing teams to resolve provider enrollment issues
    • Experience identifying payer trends and assisting with corrective action plans
    • Experience completing peer-to-peer quality assurance or training billing staff
