Job Title: Senior Interface Engineer
Location: Remote
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6-Month CTH
General Description:
The Senior Interface Engineer is responsible for managing, monitoring and supporting the Interfaces between the EMR system and Clinical and Ancillary Systems both inside and outside the organization. The Senior Interface Engineer has expert level of understanding of the Unix/AIX environment and HL7 Protocol.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- 1. Plans, designs, builds, validates, tests, implements, and supports interfaces between the electronic EMR and Clinical/Ancillary systems.
- 2. Expert level of understanding of HL7, AIX/Unix Environment and scripting.
- 3. Organize and lead interface specification meetings for gathering customer requirements; build interface implementation project plans.
- 4. Analyze workflows and gather requirements, implement specifications, support and maintain build related to the EMR’s
- 5. Create batch processes to update Electronic Medical Record applications or Clinical Systems databases.
- 6. Perform scripting using extension/embeddable languages such as XML (Extensible Markup Language) or TCL (Tool Command Language) to perform quality assurance and maintain data integrity.
- 7. Understands clinical workflows and develops and implements system code to support clinical workflows.
- 8. Provides troubleshooting, problem analysis, debugging, and resolution of interface related issues.
- 9. Performs system updates, patches, and service releases as needed.
- 10. Mentors less seniored staff members and serves as a subject matter expert on projects.
- 11. Works to minimize systems outages and the effects of outages on Hospital users by scheduling needed system downtimes to provide minimal disruption of service to users, proactively monitoring and analyzing system performance to proactively detect and resolve production system issues, and performing stringent system testing before implementing new solutions or system changes.
- 12. Utilizes IS Operational support systems to include the Support Center, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other systems as required.
- 13. Builds and maintains vendor relationships to ensure products and/or services meet the business and clinical needs and objectives of the Hospital. Note: Regular, reliable and consistent attendance is an essential job function. Employees are expected to perform work as scheduled.
IS Operational Support:
- Utilizes IS Operational support systems to include the Support Center, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other systems as required.
- Builds and maintains vendor relationships to ensure products and/or services meet the business and clinical needs and objectives of the Hospital.
- Works to minimize systems outages and the effects of outages on Hospital users by scheduling needed system downtimes to provide minimal disruption of service to users, proactively monitoring and analyzing system performance to proactively detect and resolve production system issues, and performing stringent system testing before implementing new solutions or system changes.
- Sets the example for providing fiscal responsibility in the use of Hospital resources by designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions to best utilize those resources in areas of responsibility.
Project Management:
- Applies project management principles, industry best practices, and IS Project Management Office (PMO) methodologies to all assigned projects.
- Leads teams on medium to large projects of limited scope and budget.
- Leads project scope development, project status reporting, schedules project execution, manages vendor performance and customer expectations, and facilitates meetings.
- Interacts closely with the PMO for planning and status reporting.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience required. Masters in relevant area preferred.
Certifications
Epic certification required.
Skills:
- Expert level knowledge base of scripting languages such as XML, TSH, KCl.
- Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Strong skills in use of PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements. Requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.
- At least 6 years of experience providing systems support required. Experience in health care environments preferred.
