Position: Laboratory Assistant, Phlebotomist

Location: Avon, Indiana

Duration: 6 month contract with the possibility of full-time conversion

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Assistant in the Phlebotomy Lab plays a key role in supporting accurate and timely diagnostic testing by assisting with specimen collection, processing, and supply management. This position involves drawing blood samples from patients, preparing lab labels, distributing assignments, and ensuring all units are covered for efficient specimen collection. The assistant also helps prepare the lab for the next shift by restocking and organizing supplies.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with venipuncture and capillary blood draws from patients of all ages in various clinical settings (inpatient, outpatient, emergency room, etc.).
  • Review electronic medical records to verify test orders and generate specimen labels.
  • Collaborate with team members to distribute daily phlebotomy tasks and ensure timely sample collection.
  • Ensure proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and handling in accordance with hospital and lab protocols.
  • Deliver specimens to appropriate lab departments or prepare for transport as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts, equipment, and workstations.
  • Restock supplies at the end of the shift to ensure readiness for the incoming team.
  • Adhere to all infection control, safety, and compliance standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of Phlebotomy experience required.
  • High school diploma required
  • Science related college degree, preferred
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory, required
  • Willing to draw blood from patients.
