Job Title: IBM iSeries Administrator
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced IBM iSeries Administrator to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the management, configuration, and optimization of our IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform. As an iSeries Administrator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our critical business applications running on the iSeries system.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM iSeries hardware and operating system software.
- Manage system resources, including memory, disk space, and CPU utilization.
- User and Security Management:
- Administer user accounts, profiles, and access permissions.
- Implement and enforce security policies to protect system resources and data.
- Backup and Recovery:
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.
- Perform regular backups and test the recovery processes.
- Performance Tuning:
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Implement performance tuning measures to ensure efficient operation.
- Software Installation and Maintenance:
- Install, upgrade, and patch operating system and application software.
- Coordinate with vendors to resolve software-related issues.
- Job Scheduling:
- Schedule and manage batch jobs and system tasks to optimize resource utilization.
- Ensure timely execution of critical processes.
- Problem Resolution:
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software-related issues.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement solutions.
- Capacity Planning:
- Conduct capacity planning to anticipate resource requirements and ensure scalability.
- Make recommendations for hardware and software upgrades as needed.
- Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Provide training and documentation for end-users and IT staff.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with IT teams, developers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical support.
- Participate in cross-functional projects as an iSeries expert.
- Security Audits and Compliance:
- Conduct security audits to identify and address vulnerabilities.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience as an IBM iSeries Administrator.
- Strong knowledge of IBM iSeries hardware, operating system (OS/400), and related software.
- Proficiency in user and security management on the iSeries platform.
- Experience with backup and recovery procedures.
- Solid understanding of system performance tuning and optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Industry certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator for IBM i are a plus.
