Position: AVP Patient Financial Services (Hospital Billing) 

Client: Large Provider Client 

Length: 6-month CTH 

Location: Remote, with some onsite travel to Maryland 

 

Summary 

The AVP PFS Hospital Billing is responsible for planning, organizing, and providing leadership to management for daily operational responsibility in Patient Financial Services (PFS) related to billing and collections for a multi-facility health system. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Acts as Compliance Director for PFS and ensures adherence to third-party regulatory billing and filing requirements. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with internal management and staff, as well as with external customers and executive leadership. 
  • Collaborates with Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) to identify revenue cycle improvement opportunities and implement process enhancements. 
  • Maintains relationships with key stakeholders across business units, regularly reviewing revenue cycle performance in coordination with medical records, case management, and access management teams. 
  • Participates in meetings and committees and represents the department in outreach efforts as needed. 
  • Engages in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement initiatives. 
  • Provides leadership and oversight for daily operations within the patient financial services area across the health system. 
  • Leads implementation efforts for major revenue cycle projects and serves on committees as requested. 
  • Maintains accounts receivable performance goals in alignment with system-wide targets. 
  • Responsible for monthly reporting and analysis of accounts receivable (AR) performance. 
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures; continually reviews and updates systems and data collection methods to optimize reimbursement. 
  • Reviews AR trends with CFOs and provides monthly recommendations for adjustments to bad debt and contractual allowance reserves.  

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Education 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field — required 
  • Experience 
    • Minimum of 10 years of financial management experience in a hospital accounts receivable setting, with a primary focus on third-party payer requirements, regulatory compliance, and prospective payment system (PPS) regulations — required 
  • Licenses and Certifications 
    • AHAM or HMFA Preferred 
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
    • In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements related to healthcare finance and reimbursement 
    • Detailed working knowledge of PPS regulations 
    • Proficiency in basic computer applications and data analysis tool
